About the Couture Mono eyeshadows on the Yves Saint Laurent website:
"Yves Saint Laurent presents all day wear and the highest chromatic power, now in 16 iconic shades. No crease, no migration, only intense color pay off that makes a statement. Available in matte, satin, metallic and shimmer finishes. Presented in an elegant gold compact with two applicators - a foam tip for blending and a brush for precision - ensure effortless color control. "
I'm not the best when it comes to applying eyeshadow - I usually go for some mascara and eyeliner - but I do follow a lot of beauty bloggers. So, I've managed to pick up some tips here and there and when I received a gem from the Couture Mono collection by Yves Saint Laurent, I thought it was time to put these tips to use. EYESHADOW: Yves Saint Laurent Couture Mono '07 Caftan'
The Yves Saint Laurent Couture Mono collection is now available in stores ($ 30 / € 28,35 - 2,8 g).
This does not affect my opinion in any way.
The eyeshadow comes in the typical, iconic golden packaging and just screams glamour and pure luxury. Engraved into the golden box is the - again - iconic YSL logo in black letters. The whole thing is just super pretty and fun to look at and will at a glam touch to your beauty table.
Ingredients
Talk, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Triisostearin, Phenyl Trimethicone, Magnesium Stearate, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Alumina, Solica, Caprylyl Glycol, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Magnesium Silicate, Tin Oxide, (+/- May Contain: Mica, CI 77891 / Titanium Dioxide, CI 77492, CI 77499 / Iron Oxides, CI 77163 / Bismuth Oxychloride, CI 77007 / Ultramarines, CI 77120 / Barium Sulfate, CI 75470 / Carmine, CI 77510 / Ferric Ferrocyanide, CI 77510 / Ferric Ammonium Ferrocyanide, CI 19140 / Yellow 5 Lake, CI 42090 / Blue 1 Lake, CI 77288 / Chromium Oxide Greens, CI 777W42 / Manganese Violet, CI 77400 / Bronze Powder, CI 77400 / Copper Powder, CI 77000 / Aluminium Powder), (F.I.L. C162395/6)
Inside of the golden box are two little applicators to be found: a brush and an applicator with a foam tip. I would not recommend them to do your make up with them from scratch, but they come in handy when you need to touch up your make up when you're on the go.
Wow, it was so hard to capture the exact color on camera! Even though the swatch doesn't do the color justice, it does come as close as it can get: 07 Caftan is an intense, smokey, dark plum color with tiny, subtle purple shimmers. It has great pigmentation and the color builds up easily, so you can see for yourself how intense you want to go.
Even though I love all things dark, this is a color I would wear for a night out, as I find it a little bit too heavy to wear during the day; I would go for a purple / lilac color instead. So, a night of partying is exactly what I had in mind when I created an eye look with this YSL beauty.
I went for a heavy, smokey purple look (dramatic eyeliner included) with a teeny tiny touch of copper; even though I'm not convinced about the copper in the inner corner of my eye anymore, looking at these photos, lol. Anyway, for someone who rarely does eyeshadow, I'm kinda pleased with the result. I used a darker color in my crease to (attempt to) create some depth and used the Yves Saint Laurent Couture Mono eyeshadow in '07 Caftan' on my eyelid.
And can I comment on how freakin' difficult it is to get a good shot of your eye without looking sick / high / cross eyed? If anyone has some tips about that, please drop them in the comment box below. I literally took 400 pictures (since nice lighting is a pain in the ass as well) and these (similar) four were the only ones that turned out somewhat okay. That being said, I did have fun doing this and I'm planning to go into eye looks, eye make up, etc. a little bit deeper.
